Why The Time Is Right To Go Organic

The market for organic textiles and fashion is growing, currently it is estimated to have grown by 10% in the last year. Soil Association Certification, the UK’s leading certifier of organic products to Global Organic Textiles Standards (GOTS), saw the turnover of its textile symbol holders grow by 36% in 2013, with much of this growth export-led. Organic fashion and textiles are taking the lead in this growth by offering truly kinder, cleaner and better products. Under GOTS the whole supply chain, from field to final product is certified AND we against environmental, animal welfare, social and working standards, ensuring that disasters like Rana Plaza will never, ever happen again. Organic is the most reliable, transparent and rigorous system available across the globe for ensuring sustainable production. Here are five reasons organic should be on your radar: 1. Organic gives control to farmer, not GM companies – organic farmers don’t have their choices controlled by GM companies, meaning choices are put in the farmers’ hands. 2. Organic eliminates hazardous synthetic pesticides – organic cotton doesn’t use dangerous pesticides, protecting farmers’ lives, local wildlife and the environment. 3. Organic helps farmers feed their families – organic cotton enables farmers to grow other crops for food and income, providing food security for local communities and helping them find a way out of poverty. 4. Organic helps save precious water – organic cotton uses less water, preserving a scarce and precious resource for the future. 5. Organic helps to combat climate change – organic cotton farming uses less energy and healthy organic soils store more CO2. Ways In Which You Can Support The Farmers

From perfect Food on your Plates to Beautiful Comforting Clothes on your body; from sweet, sweet sugar in your tea to exotic spices in your mom’s curry, Farmers are the lords, who make it happen. When people compliment on how great you look in the dress, farmers live a miserable scantily clad lives. When your family enjoys the lavish dinner you prepared, poor farmers can’t even afford basic meal twice a day. While few of you will be eating soup to recover your health, most of the farmers will lay sick in beds due to the effects of pesticides they used to save the crops for you. While you will be chanting the New Year’s Countdown, Over 10,000 farmers in India will commit suicide due their burden of loans.

We are mostly unaware about them, we don’t know who they are? Where they are? We don’t know how unfortunate their life is. Don’t you wanna thank them for adding life to your life? Don’t you wanna save them from their miseries?

Today, We will show you with ways with which you can support your dear farmers

Connect with them

Plan a trip with your family to the nearest village. Talk to the farmers, hear their stories, and listen to their experiences. You may not be able to teach them much, but maybe you can suggest them on how to solve their problems from your own experience, show them how they can manage financially. Maybe your small suggestion can save a life. Take your kids to the village too; it will be a different experience all together. You and your kids will definitely explore a new culture. And an extra benefit of visiting a farm is you may get a nice DDLJ style portrait of your family.

Use Organic Products.

Support their families

The biggest support to a farmer is his family. They live a very close life, every farmers depends upon his family while cultivating, so they involve their kids in farming too, depriving them from basic education. You can support them by paying his one child’s education, which will cost you as low as Re. 1 per day or you can give them your old books, which will help his kid learn well. You can also donate your clothes, shoes or other usable stuff to their families.

Support them Financially:

The easiest and the most fruitful way to support the farmers, is to support them financially. We are not asking give you them a huge chunk of money, but a mere Rs. 1000, can get them safety equipment which they can use while cultivating. A few hundred rupees from your side can bring a significant change in their lives.

Pay Off their Loans

Do You Know, according to NCRB; at least 270,940 Indian farmers have taken their lives since 1995. This occurred at an annual average of 14,462 in six years, from 1995 to 2000, and at a yearly average of 16,743 in 11 years between 2001 and 2011. This means around 46 farmers’ suicides each day, on average, or nearly one every half-hour since 2001. Farmers in India commit suicide due to the burden of loans on their heads because of repeated crop failures. What you can do is, form a group and donate to an NGO who can support a farmer for you.

Spread The Word:

Spread the word to your family and friends and on how they can support the farmers. This will benefit the farmers a lot. Encouraging your friends to switch to organic products will be a great help to them. If each one of your friend and each one of their friends switch to organic lifestyle, a whole new motivation will drive into the farmers. More farmers will start-up with organic farming seeing the rising demand in the market. Share this blog on Facebook and twitter and spread the word that you support farmers.
